Find digital images on prometheus:

prometheus is a digital image archive for art and cultural studies. The prometheus image archive works as a database broker that brings together heterogeneous image databases. The providers of the images make their databases available to research and teaching free of charge. In this way, prometheus enables a convenient image search in different image archives, and institutional, research and museum databases via one joint interface.

You can currently search 87 image databases from the fields of the history of art, design and architecture, theology, history and archaeology with a total of 1,475,384 images.

As of 4 May 2020, the Caspar David Friedrich Institute's Media Library will no longer manage accounts, as responsibility for prometheus has been transferred to the University Library.

Regardless of your user account, prometheus can be used from the computers within the University of Greifswald's computer network. Access from home is possible via VPN.

You can find the University Computer Centre's instruction on how to set up the VPN client on your device here: https://rz.uni-greifswald.de/en/services/technical-infrastructure/vpn/
