Bachelor of Arts History of Art
The degree course that has been on offer in Greifswald since winter semester 2000/2001 imparts knowledge of essential areas of art history, namely the fine arts and architecture from the early Middle Ages to the present day. Cultural history, art theory and artistic-aesthetic issues are also addressed.
The introductory modules cover the mastery and application of methods used in the history of art such as iconography as well as the ability to analyse forms and styles. This is followed by four core modules, which are subdivided into the history of art in the Middle Ages, the early modern period, the modern period and cross-genre art (art in context). Furthermore, excursions, which are designated as an additional module in the degree course, are intended to contribute to a fundamental academic approach to works of fine art and architecture from a history of art perspective.
